“You weren’t supposed to have a gun!” Diego Moreno shouted.

Sebastian DeSoto, Moreno’s partner, steered the van around slower traffic.

“What else should I have done? The man was interfering.”

Moreno bit off his reply. DeSoto had a point, but there was nothing they could do about the situation now. Worse case, the Americans were alerted to the abduction sooner than Blanca wanted, and that might make her upset, but, like the shooting, there was no way to fix the problem now. The girls were in custody, unconscious in the back of the van, and that’s what mattered. That’s all Blanca would care about. But as the man in charge of the mission, it was on Moreno to explain the problem and take the responsibility. Moreno had to admit he wasn’t sure what he’d have done had the American male kept at him. He couldn’t hold onto the woman and fight at the same time.

Moreno, sitting behind DeSoto, let out a breath and settled himself. They had a long drive to Sonora, with several vehicle changes planned along the way. It was best to try and relax and enjoy the ride.

Blanca’s vengeance had begun.
